MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Five years after joining Marion County Public Schools, Superintendent Dr. Diane Gullett will resign after the current school year ends.
Gullett submitted her letter of resignation to the school board Monday evening, later sharing the same letter in a districtwide email to employees, the county said.
“It has been a true honor to work with you and I have been humbled and blessed to serve our students together,” she wrote in her email. “Thank you for your support, your hard work, and your dedication to the success of our students,” Gullett added. “With your collective efforts, I am certain our students will continue to thrive in the future.”
The school district said Gullett is the first appointed superintendent in Marion County Public Schools’ 151-year history, selected in July 2020 from among 46 candidates.
In 2018, Marion County voters approved a measure directing school board members to appoint future superintendents.
According to her school bio, Gullett has more than 30 years of experience in public education. She has served with Orange County Public Schools for 19 years.
The county said she did not offer any details on her reason for leaving but said her last day will be on July 11, per her current contract.
“I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition and will support the Board and my successor during this time,” Gullett wrote in her resignation letter.
School board members will begin searching for a new superintendent to lead the district and its 46,500 students and 7,000-plus employees.
