DeSantis appoints lawyer Adam Cervera to fill Broward School Board seat
Sun Sentinel |By Scott Travis |
Gov. Ron DeSantis wasted little time replacing Brenda Fam on the Broward School Board, announcing Thursday he’s naming lawyer Adam Cervera to the seat.
Cervera is a shareholder at Becker & Poliakoff, a Coral Gables law firm and is a member of the Florida Bar’s Eleventh Circuit Grievance Committee, according to a news release from DeSantis’ office.
Cervera was also the recipient of the Excellence in Service Award from the Florida International University College of Law, the release states. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Central Florida and his law degree from Florida International University.
The seat represents the western Broward communities of Weston, Cooper City and Davie as well as part of Plantation. Fam abruptly stepped down from the board on Tuesday, appearing at a School Board meeting only long enough to hand a resignation letter to Superintendent Howard Hepburn.
Fam, who was the lone conservative on the board, is expected to be moving as her house is for sale, but she stated in her letter to Hepburn that she felt bullied and disrespected by the more liberal members on the board.
