DCPS to enhance security measures at all of its high schools after potential threats

Duval County Public Schools is implementing enhanced security measures at all of its high schools after a potential threat, according to a message sent to parents and students at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts.

Families received the following message on Wednesday:

“Good Evening Douglas Anderson Families,

This is Principal Hammer calling. I apologize for calling so late but I want to make you aware that our school and all Duval high schools will be implementing enhanced security measures for the remainder of this week due to a number of potential threats we have seen circulating in social media. I want you to be aware so that you and your students are not surprised when you arrive at school in the morning. We appreciate students and parents who make us aware of these posts, and we will always take them seriously. If you have any questions or feedback, I encourage you to reach out to me through the school.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing your students at school tomorrow.”

Action News Jax reached out to the school district to get more information on the threats and what security measures will be implemented.

We’ve confirmed that students heading to school can expect backpack checks, wanding and metal detectors.

A DCPS spokesperson could not provide specifics regarding the extent and type of threat made.
