The 9mm glock was later found to be stolen

A student at Leesburg High School was arrested Thursday for bringing a loaded gun onto campus, the Leesburg Police Department said.

The unnamed 9th-grade student was arrested following a routine contraband search by Leesburg school resource officers with assistance from Lake County Sheriff’s Office K-9 units trained to detect vapes, the police department’s news release said.

A dog named Samba detected a vape within the student’s backpack. A search found a loaded 9mm Glock in the backpack, which was determined to be stolen, police said. Officers took the firearm, searched the immediate area and stationed another officer on the campus for additional security for the remainder of the day, the department said.

The investigation is ongoing.
