U.S. Department of Education Honors Two Member Schools of the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools

FCPCS Congratulates its Member Schools Honored as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2020
WASHINGTON, D.C., (September 30, 2020) – Two member schools of the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools (FCPCS) have been recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2020 by the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C.
The two award-winning schools are located in South Miami and Miramar. They are Somerset Academy Middle School South Miami, in Miami-Dade County, and Somerset Academy Miramar South in Broward County.
The two Florida charter schools were among 367 public and private schools recognized for their overall academic performance or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student groups. A total of 11 Florida schools are National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2020. Two of the 11 are charter schools and both are member schools of FCPCS.
“The Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools congratulates our winning schools,” said Robert Haag, President of FCPCS. “We are proud of their accomplishments and of their membership in FCPCS.”
Each winning school receives a flag that identifies that school as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2020. According to the U.S. Department of Education, the flags “affirm the hard work of students, educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content.”
Somerset Academy Charter Middle School in South Miami is located at 5876 S.W. 68th Street. The school boasts, “technology-rich classrooms are used to enhance students with the most sophisticated and research-based teaching practices.”
Somerset Academy Miramar South is located at 12425 S.W. 53rd Street in Miramar. According to the school’s website, it “builds partnerships with teachers, families, students and the community.”
